Queanbeyan Landcare

Queanbeyan Landcare Inc. has its origins in the Trees for Queanbeyan Committee which started in 1991 and incorporated as a Landcare Group in 1997. Queanbeyan Landcare plans projects, plants native species, removes invasive weeds, organises funding and resources, advocates to council and governments on environmental issues and provides information and connections with like-minded organisations. Our focus is on making a positive difference and enjoying ourselves along the way.

Monthly meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm. Meetings take place in the Letchworth Community Centre, 28 Miller Street, Queanbeyan West. All are welcome.

Royalla Landcare

Royalla Landcare is an active group working to improve the biodiversity of the Royalla area through the protection & enhancement of our  natural environment. The Royalla area contains significant remnants of Box-Gum Grassy Woodland. White Box-Yellow Box-Blakely's Red Gum Grassy Woodland and Derived Native Grassland is listed as a critically endangered ecological community under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

There is less than 10% of this type of vegetation left anywhere !

Our projects aim to address the following issues:

• Enhancing local indigenous fauna and flora and avoiding loss of biodiversity.

• Preserving and enhancing remnant grassy woodland.

• Establishing linking wildlife corridors

• Raising community awareness and education about sustainable land

management e.g. responsible grazing techniques, erosion and weed control,

caring for native ecosystems.

Smiths Road Landcare

The Smiths Road Community is made up of approximately 50 families who live in an area adjacent to the ACT border on the west side of the Murrumbidgee. We recently re-establish the Landcare group which aims to drive environmental Initiatives that will help improve the natural habitat and resources of our local area.

Our main aims are:

With strong community support and continual awareness activities, the Smiths Road Landcare group expect to thrive in its mission to improve and protect our natural resources and the wildlife that call it home.

Our community meet Bi-Monthly, ever second Tuesday at 6:30pm.

For all Landcare questions, please contact Alicia Shadwell 0435212201.

UMLC partners with a number of organisations across the upper Murrumbidgee region.

USLN

The Upper Snowy Landcare Network (USLN) operates on the Monaro tableland in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, home to the famous Snowy River.   The region is highly productive for livestock grazing and contains some of the most valuable native grasslands and woodlands in Australia. Through education, field days and on-ground projects, we work with landholders and land management agencies to protect and preserve the natural environment in our region.

UMDR

The Upper Murrumbidgee Demonstration Reach (UMDR) was established in 2009. Acknowledging that rivers and fish do not recognise linear boundaries, the UMDR was established to span 100 km over two jurisdictions between Bredbo (NSW) and Casuarina Sands (ACT). The UMDR works with landholders with a focus on woody weed control, managing stock access to the river and restoring native vegetation along the banks and in-stream, improving fish passage and recreating geomorphic complexity.

UMCN

The Upper Murrumbidgee Catchment Network (UMCN) is a strong and diverse community-based network of individuals and representatives from agencies and groups taking a coordinated approach to creating quality natural resource management outcomes for the Upper Murrumbidgee Catchment. UMCN values knowledge sharing, networking, collaboration and inclusion, and is the regional leader in facilitating communication between the community, NGOs and government agencies.

USLC

The Upper Shoalhaven Landcare Council (USLC) helps transform the landscape, enabling farmers, landowners, conservationists and other agencies to work together at a local level on local issues. We hold regular workshops, field days and other events packed with information relevant to caring for our soils, plants and wildlife, as well as restoring degraded land. Our goal is to protect the environment so it can sustain future generations, as well as the people involved in making it happen.
